Hello everyone,
As someone who spent most of last year in and around the Gulf, I, as anyone who visits the area would do - fell in love with every part of it. From Texas to Louisiana to Alabama to Mississippi to Florida - you name it, I was there. I must also say, that the residents of the Gulf are hands down some of the kindest, most honest and all around greatest people I have ever had the honor of knowing.
Which is why I am doing everything I can in order to help with this catastrophic oil spill. That is also why @RichardVirgen and I formed Project Gulf Impact. This is not some celebrity "Hollywood" foray made to make us look better. It is genuinely because of how much we love the people of the Gulf.
Which leads me to my next point - WHERE IS THEIR VOICE? This is one of the worst disasters of our time, and it seems like most people would rather just turn the other cheek and hope someone else will do it. That is not what is needed here. What is needed is a true wake up call to the world that the residents need our help with this.
No matter who you are, where you are from, or what you do, there are a million and half things that can be done to help. The issue I'm finding is that people are having lots of problems tracking down that information. That is another reason we started our prjGulfImpact Twitter and #ProjectGulfImpact in general. We need to collect ourselves as ONE, and help with cleanup ourselves.
Grassroots. That is what this is... Forget Hollywood...Find the Facts, and we welcome an open discussion on ways to help. We will have much more information in the upcoming hours, days, and weeks. For now, follow @PrjGulfImpact and tweet us with your ideas, stories, and facts.
We are all in this together - and it takes US to make the change. Let's help the wonderful people of The Gulf, not just because they are wonderful, not just because they need it, but because they DESERVE this.
Thank You,
Matt Smith

Matt, Thank you for spreading the word of this tragedy. If you would could you please post my link?? www.JumpingOysters.com As a native Mobilian I am trying to spread the word to keep the focus on our beautiful Gulf and hope you may reach more folks that I could. I have designed "Oil Spill Monster" items and will donate a portion of the net sales to assist in the cleanup. Thank you, Ben Hill - Mobile, AL

and so it came about that in college I was unjustlyaccused of being a politician, because I was privy to thesecret griefs of wild, unknown men. Most of the confidenceswere unsought—frequently I have feigned sleep, preoccupation,or a hostile levity when I realized by some unmistakablesign that an intimate revelation was quivering on the horizon; for the intimate revelations of young men, or at least the terms in which they express them, are usually plagiaristic and marred by obvious suppressions.
